My name is Dennis Pieschel. I have designed my web site to assist the many people dealing with ICBC and private insurance companies on insurance claims, as well as the many people purchasing pre-owed and rebuilt vehicles. During my 25 years in the collision repair industry, and 13 years as an ICBC estimator, I have gained the experience required to provide the information on this web site. It will assist and enable consumers to understand and gain control of the automotive collision claims process, and give them confidence when purchasing a pre-owned or rebuilt vehicle. I am confident the information provided will be invaluable to you.

informed buyerUsed parts are simply parts from vehicles that have been declared a total loss and sold to Auto Wreckers for dismantling. They then sell the dismantled parts to the public as well as insurance companies for use in the repair process of damaged vehicles. Your insurance company provides for the use of used parts during the repair of your vehicle in the policy you purchased. Unless you have a special endorsement policy prohibiting the use of used parts on your vehicle, they will utilize them when ever possible. The only endorsement available from ICBC to restrict the use of used parts on your vehicle is known as an APV 286A, and can be purchased at your local Autoplan Agent. The APV 286A is only available on vehicles, which are in model year 1, 2 or 3 and provides coverage for other loss as well.
While your policy permits the use of used parts during the repair process of your vehicle, there are some limitations your insurance company must adhere to. Their obligation to you as a policyholder is to return your vehicle to a pre-loss condition. Therefore any and all used parts used to repair your vehicle must meet the criteria of restoring your vehicle to a pre-loss condition. The used parts from the dismantled vehicle must be from a vehicle of the same year or newer, and the dismantled vehicle must have the same or less mileage on its odometer. Once the used parts arrive at the body shop they must be inspected to assure they are in better or the same pre-accident condition as the parts removed from your vehicle. If all these conditions are met they have met their obligation to you.
IF REPAIR MONITORING IS REQUESTED EYE ON COLLISION REPAIRS WILL ENSURE THESE CONDITIONS ARE MET:
Eye on Collision Repairs will have one of their experts do a visual inspection of the parts to confirm condition, confirm with the supplier that the parts are from a vehicle of the same year or newer, and record the odometer reading of the dismantled vehicle. This will all be done prior to any used parts being installed on your vehicle. Any exceptions to these criteria being met would result in Insurance Related Diminished Value of your vehicle. In the event of this happening, Eye on Collision Repairs would assist in the recovery of your loss due to Insurance Related Diminished Value.
IF ONLY FINAL INSPECTION IS REQUESTED, EYE ON COLLISION REPAIRS WILL CONFIRM YEAR AND MILAGE ONLY, AND INCLUDE INFORMATION WITH THE FINAL INSPECTION REPORT.
